About Symposium
The symposium will be held on May 8-10, 2026, at Ibn Haldun University, Istanbul, Türkiye. This year’s symposium aims to bring together undergraduate and graduate students around the theme of “Society in Motion: Transformations in Power, Knowledge, and Identity” to deeply examine the social, cultural, and technological dynamics of our contemporary era.
Our symposium aims to critically examine the multifaceted effects of digitalization, artificial intelligence, new media, and global crises on individuals and communities. We seek to explore how structures of power, processes of knowledge production, and constructions of identity are being reshaped, as well as the transformations in family, work life, urban spaces, and intergenerational relations. Furthermore, the symposium aims to provide an interdisciplinary platform for dialogue to understand the complex issues of our time, ranging from digital activism to the surveillance society, and from popular culture to the decolonization of knowledge.
We highly encourage the submission of papers that explore new approaches and paradigms related to the theme of the symposium. Additionally, we encourage students to engage with and extend their analyses on a number of focal areas, including but not limited to:
- The Digital Society: Online Selves, Communities, and Power
- Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Social Sciences
- Generations and Belonging: A Sociology of Family, Youth, and Identity
- Urban Worlds: City Life, Inequality, and the Future of Space
- Work, Worth, and the Future of Labor
